Sonodisc Picture Catalogue, abbreviations in listings.

Here are abbreviations used in the two catalogues, they are sorted in order of the abbreviations.

African labels.

Abb. Label Notes Abb. Label Notes
ARC Ev. Arphone? (Africa)(Maghreb?)(notes 1.) S LSB (Africa)
EE Unknown label (Africa)(notes 2.) SAF Sonafrique (Africa)
ESP Disques Esperances (Africa, International etc.) SON Songhoï (Africa)
FB Disques Francis Bebey (Africa) SYL Syliphone (Guinée-Conakry)
KLP Kouma (Africa, Latin-America) ZAF Zomba ? (Africa)(notes 3.)
OZ Ozileka Records (Africa) Editions du Baobab (Congo Brazzaville)(notes 4.)
OZIL Ozileka Records (Africa) (intentionally left blank)

Notes: 1. The abbreviation ARC appears in two contexts in the catalogues. Arphone from Maghreb uses it, they have one release, Arphone ARC 30001 , in the second catalogue. The second appearance of ARC is as a listing in column 2 on page 1 of the 33 rpm index in the first catalogue. The indexes ARC 186 - ARC 205 appear here. To me it seems probable to assume that these two appearances emanates from two different labels. The numberseries are quite different and the areas of interrest, Maghreb and Africa/Latinamerica (Zaire Folk-pop, Minzoto ya Zaire, Altiplano el canto Indoamericano), makes it quite reasonable to assume that ARC 186 - ARC 205 emanates from another label than Arphone.
2. Which label that uses EE is not known. EE appears in Column 2 in the 45 rpm index in the second catalogue. To notice is though that the name of the artist is Emmanuel Eteme and the abbreviation is EE.
3. The relation between Zomba and ZAF is vague and to be seen only as a possibility. Zomba appears on the lower right corner of the back cover of the first catalogue. ZAF appears in column 2 on page 3 of the 45 rpm index in the first catalogue. The connection is this one. The only definitive trace of Zomba in any of the catalogues is on the back cover first catalogue. There is no other label than Zomba in any of the catalogues that has the letter "Z" as first letter. The only label except for Zomba that uses "Z" at all is Ozileka that has the abbreviations OZ and OZIL. The abbreviation ZAF is not connected to any label at all. Almost all abbreviations are connected to labels, see lists on this page.
4. Editions du Baobab from Congo Brazzaville uses no abbreviations, they use no letters in their "record number". Appears on page 30 in the second catalogue.

2. DGD . DGD appears in column 1 on page 1 of the 33 rpm index in the first catalogue. There is no indicatio what so ever which label the abbreviation is connected to.
3. JOJO . JOJO appears in column 2 on page 1 of the 33 rpm index in the first catalogue. The corresponding LP release is on picture in the first of the Antilles pages of both catalogues, JOJO 403 . A look at the upper right corner of the sleeve picture makes the assumption that the name of the label might be JOJO at least to be seen as a possibility.
4. P . P appears in column 1 on the 45 rpm of the 45 rpm index in the second catalogue. There is no indicatio what so ever which label the abbreviation is connected to.
