Chinese 78 rpm record labels


Has anyone written a history of the recording industry in China by any chance?
Is there at least some article in any language by anyone that someone have stashed away, or has any info about where to locate.

The only title I know of sofar that may contain something is:

Liang, Mingyue: Music of the Billion, Heinrichshofen, Germany 1985
(Could this possibly be written by the Qin-player with the same name who made at least 2 LP's?)

Does anyone know of any discography or compilation of titles at all?

The Shanghai scene should be dealt with by someone at least a little? At least there is something on the music in movies in Leyda: Electric Shadows - on Chinese Movies & a French book on the same topic.

How early did they start making records in China?
Was Beka the first company in c.1905/6?

These companies were recording in China and some where pressing in Germany, some in India, and England (France?) USA ....

When it comes to translation of the western record companies names you can see that the aim is not an attempt at just transliteration but rather some kind of a phonetic resemblance but with a Chinese meaning, maby the pronunciation was closer in some dialects. Like Cantonese or Shanghai-dialect.

(transcription only to translate that as Meeting upon the waves may be stretching it ...)
